The museum is also humorous in a way that highlights everyday life through the use of art. There is space cordoned off for people to create logos for their families and to bring out the creative side from within. Another zone for people who like reading books and become active in making the museum. The central atrium is the heart of the Design Museum, which collects people and then leads them to every section and program in the building. The spatial configuration is potent, and the staircase in the atrium is a place to sit, relax, and absorb art from every direction. The idea of interaction, visually and verbally, can be easily felt.

The use of graphics acts as a catalyst in bridging the museum’s various functions and silently keeps adding value to it. The Design Museum is not just a public space exhibiting artworks but a mirror to see ourselves after being influenced by the magic of art. The environment is an honest expression of the potential of imagination and artistic brilliance, making us realize how we have evolved under the tutelage of inventiveness and ingenuity only possible with the progression of art. The Design Museum London is a space for anyone from the field of art to showcase their work. It’s a platform to exhibit artwork in any form or any way to the world and uniquely expose different cultures and heritage.

Located on the southern edge of Holland Park, the original building, designed by RMJM, was built in 1962 for the Commonwealth Institute, to house a permanent exhibition about the nations of the former British Empire. Working for the developer, OMA explored numerous reuse options, including a fashion-show venue for Prada and a concert hall for the BBC, but then the Design Museum emerged as the likely occupant, lured by a 175-year, rent-free lease. References to the building’s history are made through the selective reuse of original materials, including a stained-glass window that was relocated to the museum shop. The Design Museum, located in London, illustrates how buildings can be figuratively recycled and put to new uses. Founded in 1888, the Commonwealth Institute was located in Kensington from 1962 until 2015; in 2016, after renovating and remodeling the interior, the Design Museum relocated from its original location into the Commonwealth Institute’s former building. Because the large building already featured a unique architectural design with its sloped copper roof, the formed Commonwealth Institute building made a perfect location for the Design Museum.

The roof spans the entire atrium and looks serpentine from the inside, with ribbed beams-like supports. Explore the past, present and future of design through a programme of exhibitions and learning events. The setting of the Design Museum has been designed with landscape architects West 8. Original features of the Commonwealth Institute have been painstakingly researched and reinterpreted back into the contemporary design with significant trees retained along the edge of Holland Park and Kensington High Street. Its collection, publishing, events, exhibitions, learning and digital programmes invite everyone to experience and reflect on the impact of design.

OMA designed the new building with Allies and Morrison for the exterior and John Pawson for the interiors. The team has done a great job in making the structure look contemporary. The idea is to have a perennial display with occasional exhibition stalls.

Delve into the fantastical world of Tim Burton in this major exhibition exploring his remarkable creations and key collaborations with designers. The refurbishment was realized while retaining the renowned parabolic copper roof in-situ, which required significant engineering skill from Arup and the contractor, Mace. Get to know the journey to become the world's leading contemporary design museum. Founded in 1989 by Sir Terence Conran, the museum is the place in the UK where the design industry, education and the public come together to change the way people think about themselves and the future.

The museum is an eye-opener as it provides creators and thinkers with a platform to bring change, educate and inspire many more humans. It shows that design is not only creativity and colours but also addresses the needs, demands, and behaviours common to all, functionally and nobly. The Design Museum is a place where there are no wrong answers. Everybody and everything of any scale or magnitude are accepted. The entire structure uses a lot of colors and is a potpourri of the art of any possible style.

The Design Museum offices and main reception, a meeting room and a film studio are also located on the first floor. On the ground floor, the largest gallery showcases a programme of temporary exhibitions. The ground floor atrium welcomes visitors and acts as an events space. A main staircase from the atrium gives access to all floors and offers views to the first and second floors. The renovation reinterprets the Institute’s eccentric interior in a rationalized form that “strikes a balance between paying tribute to the building as it was and the needs of the museum,” says OMA partner Reinier de Graaf. Previously, an asymmetric atrium was ringed by two upper tiers of open-fronted exhibition space, accessed via bridges from an elevated circular dais at the center of the plan.
